Yogurt with grated cucumber

SnackPrep 8 minCook 0 minPortions: 2

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of pasteurised plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 1/2 cucumber

Method

  1. Wash the cucumber, peel it and scoop out the seedy middle with a spoon.
  2. Grate the rest finely.
  3. Squeeze the grated cucumber lightly in your hand and pour off the excess liquid.
  4. Stir it into the yogurt and serve straight away; add no salt, sugar or honey.

Texture

Yogurt thick enough to stay on the spoon with finely grated soft cucumber, and never a watery consistency.

Serving

Let it stand briefly rather than serving it straight from the fridge.

Preparing for choking safety

Cucumber is never served as slices or sticks; the skin and seedy middle are removed and the rest is finely grated. Unpasteurised dairy is not used.

Storage

Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.

Safety

Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Your baby may not have teeth yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods. Introduce foods that can trigger an allergic reaction one at a time and in small amounts, so you can spot any reaction.
