Avocado strips
SnackPrep 5 minCook 0 minPortions: 2
Ingredients
- 1/2 ripe avocado
Method
- Check that the avocado is ripe: it should hold the mark of your finger under gentle pressure.
- Remove the skin and the stone.
- Cut the flesh into finger-thick, finger-length strips.
- If a strip becomes very slippery, pat it dry; serve straight away and let your baby feed themselves sitting upright with someone beside them.
Texture
A soft strip that squashes easily under your finger, with none of the firm, unripe avocado texture.
Serving
Give one strip at a time, long enough that a bit sticks out of your baby's fist. This recipe is neither cooked nor heated.
Preparing for choking safety
Do not use a firm avocado. The stone must be fully removed and the skin must not reach the mouth; the strips are not cut into round pieces.

Storage
Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.
Safety
Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Your baby may not have teeth yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods.
