Yogurt with avocado

SnackPrep 5 minCook 0 minPortions: 2

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons of pasteurised plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 1/2 ripe avocado

Method

  1. Check that the avocado is ripe: it should hold the mark of your finger under gentle pressure.
  2. Remove the skin and stone and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
  3. Mash with a fork until no lumps remain.
  4. Stir into the yogurt and serve straight away; add no sugar and no honey.

Texture

A smooth mixture thick enough to stay on the spoon, with no firm pieces of avocado left.

Serving

Serve as soon as you mix it, as it darkens on standing. Introduce foods that can trigger an allergic reaction one at a time and in small amounts, so you can spot any reaction.

Preparing for choking safety

Do not use a firm avocado — an unripe one will not mash and leaves lumps. The stone must be fully removed. Unpasteurised dairy is not used.

Storage

Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.

Safety

Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods.
