Mashed avocado
SnackPrep 5 minCook 0 minPortions: 1
Ingredients
- 1/2 ripe avocado
- 1 tablespoon of boiled and cooled water
Method
- Check that the avocado is ripe: it should hold the mark of your finger under gentle pressure.
- Remove the skin and stone and scoop the flesh into a bowl.
- Mash with a fork until no lumps remain.
- Stir in the water and serve straight away.
Texture
Soft and smooth, thick enough to stay on the spoon, with no firm pieces of avocado left.
Serving
Serve as soon as you mash it, as it darkens on standing. This recipe is neither cooked nor heated.
Preparing for choking safety
Do not use a firm avocado — an unripe one will not mash and leaves lumps. The stone must be fully removed.

Storage
Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.
Safety
Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods.
