Yogurt with smooth tahini

SnackPrep 5 minCook 0 minPortions: 2

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of pasteurised plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 1 teaspoon of smooth tahini whose ingredient list is sesame only, with nothing else added

Method

  1. Read the tahini label: the ingredient list must be sesame only, with no salt, sugar or oil added.
  2. Loosen the tahini in a separate bowl with one spoonful of the yogurt first, so no lump is left.
  3. Stir the loosened tahini into the rest of the yogurt.
  4. Serve straight away; add no sugar and no honey.

Texture

A smooth mixture thick enough to stay on the spoon, with no thick lump of tahini left.

Serving

Let it stand briefly rather than serving it straight from the fridge.

Preparing for choking safety

Whole sesame seeds are not used, only smooth tahini. Thick tahini is never given on its own from a spoon — it sticks in the mouth and is always loosened with the yogurt. Unpasteurised dairy is not used.

Storage

Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.

Safety

Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Your baby may not have teeth yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods. Introduce foods that can trigger an allergic reaction one at a time and in small amounts, so you can spot any reaction.
