Yogurt with apricot mash

SnackPrep 8 minCook 10 minPortions: 2

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons of pasteurised plain whole-milk yogurt
  • 3 ripe apricots or 3/4 cup of frozen apricots

Method

  1. If you are using fresh apricots, remove the stones and skins; defrost frozen apricots in the fridge.
  2. Cook in a very little water until they soften under your finger.
  3. Mash with a fork, leaving small soft pieces, and let them cool completely.
  4. Stir into the yogurt and serve straight away; add no sugar and no honey.

Texture

Yogurt thick enough to stay on the spoon with small soft pieces of apricot, and no skin left.

Serving

Let it stand briefly rather than serving it straight from the fridge. Dried apricot is not used.

Preparing for choking safety

The apricot's stones and skin must be removed and the pieces must squash with gums. Unpasteurised dairy is not used.

Storage

Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.

Safety

Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Your baby may not have teeth yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods. Introduce foods that can trigger an allergic reaction one at a time and in small amounts, so you can spot any reaction.
