Ripe banana fingers
SnackPrep 3 minCook 0 minPortions: 3
Ingredients
- 1 ripe banana
Method
- Check that the banana is ripe: the skin should be speckled and the flesh should squash easily under your finger.
- Peel it and cut the banana lengthways into three long fingers.
- Leaving a little skin at the bottom end of a piece makes it easier to grip; the skin must not go into the mouth.
- Serve straight away, with your baby sitting upright and someone beside them.
Texture
A soft, long piece that squashes easily under your finger, with none of the firm, greenish banana texture.
Serving
Give one piece at a time, long enough that a bit sticks out of your baby's fist. This recipe is neither cooked nor heated.
Preparing for choking safety
Banana is not cut into round slices but into long lengthways pieces. A firm, unripe banana is never served, and the skin must not reach the mouth.

Storage
Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.
Safety
Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods.
