Second trimester

25 Weeks Pregnant

Last stretch of the second trimester

This week your baby is around the size of a swede.

How your baby is developing

  • Many feel regular movement by now, though not all.
  • Growth continues steadily.

What may be happening in your body

  • By now many people feel movement regularly, and you may start to notice when your baby tends to be most active.
  • Tiredness and sleeping problems are among the most common symptoms at this stage.
  • Your baby can now respond to sound, so you may feel them move in reaction to a loud noise or a familiar voice.

How you may be feeling

  • As the second trimester nears its end, some people feel a mix of pride at how far they've come and weariness from the physical load.
  • Feeling your baby respond to your voice or music can feel like a first kind of two-way connection for some.
  • It's common for some to feel the pull between wanting to prepare and simply feeling too tired to start — both make sense right now.

Worth remembering

A little puffiness in your face, hands or feet is usually harmless water retention — but mention any swelling to your midwife or doctor so they can check it.

A closer look

Your baby is starting to hear

Around this stage your baby's hearing is developing, and they may respond to sounds from the outside world, including your voice. Some people notice a kick or a wriggle after a loud noise or a familiar song. Talking or singing to your bump can be a gentle way to feel close, if that feels right for you.

Gassy after eating?

Burping more than usual is very common around now, and you may feel fuller than you used to. Burning in your chest, bloating or nausea after meals point to indigestion and heartburn — your growing baby is taking over some of the space where your stomach used to be. Smaller meals, sitting up straight when you eat, and going easy on caffeine can all help.

Something you can do this week

Rest and comfort become even more worth prioritising.

What comes next

Nesting energy or a wish to prepare can appear over the next weeks.
