Second trimester

15 Weeks Pregnant

Growing steadily

This week your baby is around the size of an apple.

How your baby is developing

  • Your baby's senses, including hearing, are gradually developing.
  • Steady growth continues this week.

What may be happening in your body

  • You could start getting the odd jabbing pain on the sides of your bump — known as round ligament pain — and putting your feet up and resting can help.
  • Your skin may feel a bit itchy as it stretches — an unperfumed moisturiser and loose cotton clothing can help.
  • As the bump grows, some notice mild indigestion after meals, as digestion slows and stomach space tightens.

How you may be feeling

  • Seeing or feeling early body changes can make the pregnancy feel more real for some.
  • A first visible bump can stir excitement, and for some, mixed feelings about a changing body.
  • Comparing your bump to others' is a common pull, even though every body carries pregnancy in its own way.

Worth remembering

A little more milky discharge than usual is common around now — it comes with the extra blood flow of pregnancy.

A closer look

If your skin feels itchy

Mildly itchy skin can be part of this stage as your skin stretches and changes. An unperfumed moisturiser, loose cotton clothing, and a cool bath can all help. If the itching gets worse, especially at night, talk to your doctor or midwife.

Eating as space tightens

With appetite returning, some people start to notice indigestion, as pregnancy hormones relax the digestive system and the growing womb presses upward. This can feel like burning or fullness after meals. Eating smaller amounts more often, and sitting upright after eating, may feel more comfortable.

Something you can do this week

Comfortable clothes and good rest can make this stretch easier.

What comes next

First flutters of movement begin for some parents in the coming weeks.
