Quartered grapes with banana
SnackPrep 8 minCook 0 minPortions: 2
Ingredients
- 8 ripe grapes
- 1/2 ripe banana
Method
- Wash the grapes and remove any pips if you are using a seeded variety.
- Cut every grape lengthways into quarters; never serve a grape whole or halved.
- Halve the banana lengthways and cut it into short pieces; do not cut round slices.
- Put them on a plate and let your child feed themselves sitting upright with someone beside them.
Texture
Soft grapes quartered lengthways and short pieces of banana, with nothing left round and whole.
Serving
Put a few pieces down at a time. This recipe is neither cooked nor heated.
Preparing for choking safety
A whole or halved grape is a choking risk; no grape is served before it is quartered lengthways. Any pips must be removed. Banana is never served as round slices.

Storage
Serve as soon as it is mixed; this recipe is not reheated. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than keeping it.
Safety
Your child should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. No salt or sugar is added to these recipes; honey is not given before one year. Their back teeth may not be through yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums and cut to a safe size. Children do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your child's pace rather than pushing. If your child has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods.
