Chicken and pasta
Main mealPrep 12 minCook 28 minPortions: 3
Ingredients
- 70 g of skinless chicken breast
- 1/2 cup of small tube pasta made from durum wheat
- 1 small courgette
- Water
Method
- Remove the skin and visible fat from the chicken.
- Cook in unsalted water until no pink remains, even at the thickest part, and keep the cooking water.
- Cook the pasta with no salt added, a few minutes longer than the packet time, until it falls apart under your finger; add the grated courgette for the last 5 minutes.
- Drain and chop the pasta into small pieces with a knife.
- Shred the chicken and chop it very finely, stir it through the pasta and moisten with the cooking water.
Texture
Very soft pasta chopped small with finely chopped chicken, and no slippery whole tubes and no long strands left.
Serving
Serve warm. If it seems dry, add a little more of the cooking water.
Preparing for choking safety
Skin, fat and bone must be removed and chicken is never served as long strands. Pasta is made from durum wheat and a firm, slippery piece is a risk, so it is cooked long and chopped small. No jarred sauce and no stock cube is used.

Storage
Cool within 1 to 2 hours of cooking, then refrigerate or freeze in small portions. Use a refrigerated portion within 2 days. Eat a defrosted portion within 24 hours. When reheating, heat until steaming hot all the way through, then let it cool before serving, and reheat any portion only once. Throw away a half-eaten portion rather than storing or reheating it.
Safety
Your baby should be sitting upright and someone should stay with them while they eat. Add no salt, sugar or honey; honey is not given before one year. Your baby may not have teeth yet, so every piece must be soft enough to squash with gums. Babies do not all manage the same texture at the same age — follow your baby's pace rather than pushing. If your baby has an allergy, eczema, or a family history of allergy, talk to your GP or health visitor before introducing new foods. Introduce foods that can trigger an allergic reaction one at a time and in small amounts, so you can spot any reaction.
